Actually diamonds have some unique properties by which you can identify that either the gemstone you are purchasing is real diamond or not. But these are the very basic tests and you cannot fully rely on these to distinguish betweeen real and fake. But how do you know fake or real diamond?
Always remember that the real diamond will not float on the surface of water. Real diamond always sinks in the water. If the piece of diamond is floating on the water surface then it is not the real diamond but actually a piece of other gemstone.

The surface of diamond is always fine and shining and cannot be rough. If you want to check a piece of diamond, then look closely at the flat surfaces of the stone. If you can find even a single scratch then belive me it is not the real diamond.
Another characteristic of diamond is that it refracts the light and you cannot see through it straight, as u can see through the normal piece of glass.
